Findings & Insights
School Contracts
Only four days after the override was rejected, the School Committee approved a new teacher contract with a 9.5% raise over three years (FY26–FY28). This decision directly increased staff cuts and will pressure other town unions to accept smaller raises to offset costs. We’re also reviewing what appears to be an 11% reduction in Special Education teaching staff and a 19% salary increase for the Superintendent from FY23–FY25.
DPW
Operations
Instead of eliminating a full-time position, the DPW cut part-time weekend staff—forcing the Saturday closure of the Recycle Center since full-time employees can’t work weekends without overtime pay. This choice reduced resident access rather than addressing inefficiency.
